The YES retreat is a three-day Christian high school retreat where teens from all across the united states come together to glorify God. The weekend consists of activities, small groups, worship, talks, and more. The theme of This retreat was “double portion” which is a double blessing. We learned about the story from the Bible where Elisha requested a double portion of Elijah’s spirit and God granted Elisha’s request. Suddenly, chariots of fire appeared with horses of fire, and Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven. Elisha took up the mantle of Elijah that had fallen from him. The talk on the retreat explained how the mantle Elisha took on was not going to completely fit him, but he will have to adjust to it. In life, we can learn from other people's examples but ultimately we must follow the will of God for our lives which will look different for everyone. This stuck with me because I saw God work through other people in unique ways and through me. On this retreat, I grew a deeper relationship with God, claimed my own personal faith, and saw how God worked through others.
