It’s getting to be that time of year again! When the last long, hazy days of summer begin to fade and the trees are alight with fiery hues of red and gold, and the evening warmth is touched with the first breaths of brisk fall… One begins to feel that old tug of the adventurous spirit, tiring of its latent submersion under the relaxation of summer and yearning to strike off on the road not knowing whither it leads. This fall, follow that yearning and let it lead you on the venture with the Spirit of all true and noble adventure. The People of Hope’s annual retreats offer an opportunity to leave home for a weekend of “stepping out in faith.” The theme for this year’s retreats is …
The talks will be based on Pope Francis’ recent apostolic exhortation Evangelii Gaudium which was published in November of last year. The title comes from the opening line: “The joy of the gospel fills the hearts and lives of all who encounter Jesus.”
Our retreats this year will be given by Jim and Anne Kolar from the Community of Christ the Redeemer in St. Paul, Minnesota. Jim and Anne have served in leadership roles in their community for many years, and are great examples of living out the faith in the vocation to marriage and family.
Jim served as a Senior Coordinator of the Community of Christ the Redeemer since its founding and currently continues to serve the Community as a Coordinator. He has also taught Graduate courses in Theology and has given talks at Seminars and Conferences in the US, Europe and Asia. He has worked with the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, the Minnesota Catholic Conference of Bishops in an advisory capacity. He has a doctoral degree from the Minnesota Consortium of Theological Schools.
Anne has home schooled their five children through grade school, run her own home based business, and served as the overall senior women’s leader in CCR. She is a member of the Women’s regional council for the North American region, and has spoken at various national and international meetings and conferences. She currently works for Cerenity, a Senior’s Care facility in St. Paul. She also continues to serve on the local Senior Women’s Council. She serves as the outside senior women’s leader for several communities in the North American Region.
Anne and Jim have been married for 40 years. They have five children and five grandchildren, and have had over 200 singles live with them and their family over the course of the last 40 years. We look forward to hear them share their own experience of the Joy of the Gospel on this retreat!
