Koinonia Academy

Founded in 1984 to provide support for many of our members who sought a good, affordable Catholic education for their children, Koinonia Academy (Koinonia means "fellowship in the Holy Spirit") has as its main goal to form in young men and women the character qualities of Jesus Christ. We believe that such qualities enable our young people to achieve spiritual maturity and academic excellence both during and after their school years. Koinonia has been successful in helping parents train their children in traditional Christian values and in preparing them to take a responsible role in bringing these values to society.

Koinonia Academy has three major goals:

1. To create an educational environment which supports the Christian values being taught by parents.
2. To assist parents in the formation of children and young adult men and women as mature Christians.
3. To teach students to value their relationships with God and with one another and to understand the consequences of their actions.

Koinonia Academy consistently uses the following philosophy and approach to education:

1. God is the source of all truth, beauty and goodness; therefore, we look to Him as the source of all that is taught at Koinonia.
2. The basis of our curriculum is Roman Catholic tradition, Holy Scripture, and the magisterium of the Church.
3. Our school is both Christian and charismatic.
4. The curriculum of the elementary grades emphasizes a "back to basics" approach, where mastery of the basics of communication and computation is stressed.
5. The secondary curriculum offers preparation for college or entrance into the work force.
6. Christian character in children is best formed through enjoyable hard work. Course material is made enjoyable, motivating children to learn. Course content is presented with students taking an active role: doing, not just watching.

A few years ago, Father Michael Scanlan, T.O.R., then president of The Franciscan University of Steubenville, Steubenville, Ohio, wrote to us, "We have found the graduates of Koinonia Academy well-rounded and well-prepared for university studies. Koinonia is accomplishing at the secondary school level what Steubenbille is a the university level -- challenging students to develop strong Christian character and to achieve academic excellence."
